So far waste air cleaning has been coherent to the use of chemicals, which caused high operation cost and at the same time pollution of the water.
In the humid biofilter absorption bed contaminants are decomposed into non toxic substances - like water and carbon dioxide - by adapted micro-organisms.
Modern biofilters are filled with organic filter material which keeps its porosity and structure for a long period.
The gases to be treated are first led through a conditioning unit (pre-scrubber) in order to guarantee optimum conditions for the microbes on the supporting filter material.
Here the gases are cooled, humidified and freed from solid particles. The pre-scrubber also acts as an efficient buffer smoothening peaks of high contaminants loading. If required, fatty aerosols and other disturbing substances can be eliminated.
The biofilter with its organic filter material is extremely indifferent to interruptions in the operating process. The plant can be switched off during weekends or holidays without malfunction. This is only possible as the bacteria can feed from the filter material without addition of any further nutrients.
Before start-up the biofilter is treated with a solution containing bacteria. Thus the cleaning efficiency is provided from the very beginning. Biofilters need no chemical additives. The maintenance effort is rather low as the filter material has to be exchanged only every 3 to 5 years.
Applications for our biofilters are public and industrial waste water treatment plants, sludge drying plants, food processing and luxury food industries, composting plants, waste treatment plants, fish and meat processing, animal food production, dumping grounds and many others. Also a number of organic compounds and solvents, like Phenol and Formaldehyde, Xylene, Toluene, Styrene, Alcohols, Ketons and Glycols are decomposed effectively. By laboratory tests as well as mobile pilot testing new applications for the biofilter technology are being continually investigated and proofed.
The odour removal plants are designed according to latest guidelines like VDI 3477 as well as based on our long-term experience, always considering the specific demands of our customers.
Our biofilters are produced in a modular system and can easily be assembled on site so as to form systems with big filter areas.
The material used, F R P, (fibreglass reinforced plastic) is absolutely corrosion and weather proof. Even when exposed to high temperatures the housings remain stable.
The outsides of the biofilter housings can be pigmented with any colour required.
