Cross Flow Scrubbers

In cross flow scrubbers the waste air streams horizontally through one or several packing bed(s) and gets into close contact with the washing liquid which is sprayed from above – i.e. in a “cross flow”. By this method the contaminants in the waste air are being transferred into the washing water.

Depending on the process conditions chemical-oxidative as well as biological operation modes are possible.

The water droplets will divide on the packing filaments while new droplets are being formed on the bottom side of the packing. Thus, the washing water droplets are renewing themselves continuously. providing a fresh surface for efficient subsequent absorption.

Especially for multi-stage applications this design has proved very suitable, as the air can pass trough all stages, one by one demanding only little space at lowest possible pressure loss.

As each scrubbing stage has its own circulation system, different operation conditions can be adjusted for each single stage in order to achieve optimum removal of the most varying contaminants.

This means that for one scrubbing stage acid can be used as a washing medium whereas the next stage works under caustic conditions. Therefore, acidic and alkaline contaminants can subsequently be absorbed in one plant.

Chemicals are added automatically by means of pH/rh controlled metering pumps. The chemicals are only added when needed and until the required concentration is reached. Sudden peaks (variations) of contaminant load are compensated by increased chemical dosage.

Cross flow scrubbers are made of FRP in order to achieve optimum resistance to corrosion and weather. By weight saving construction with FRP a roof installation due to limited space is possible.
